Gisèle Pelicot: Five questions left unanswered by the trial

“There will be a before and an after Pellico trial,” one Parisian man told the BBC early in the trial.

For many, these feelings have only grown over the past few months as intense media coverage of the Pelicot trial has sparked numerous conversations about rape, consent, and sexual violence.

“What we need to do is impose much harsher sentences,” Nicolas and Madi, who live in Mazan, told the BBC. They said they were “disgusted” to learn that one of the defendants was a man they played football with.

They added: “Longer sentences will make you think at least twice before doing something like this. It’s crazy unfair that some men can get out of prison in just a few months.”
