GM has a weak demand for BrightDrop Electric vans, reducing 500 jobs.

According to CNBC, General Motors has a weak demand for electrical bright drop vans, making 500 workers in Canada.

GM said that CNBC’s reduction is not related to the ongoing trade wars by President Donald Trump. The company is cutting one of the two shifts at the Kami plant in Ontario, and will be able to do the facilities for 20 weeks from May.

The cut is the new twist in the short but somewhat noisy history of BrightDrop. In 2021, it created a Brighttrop with a separate entity within GM, but it was absorbed in 2023. In 2024, BrightDrop van suffered a recall after a battery fire. Last year, GM moved Brightrop to the Chevy brand.
