Google launches Chrome’s Gemini in India

Google announced Wednesday that it is bringing Gemini integration for Chrome to new regions, including India, Canada, and New Zealand. With this launch, users will be able to use Gemini in Chrome through the sidebar on their desktop, asking Google’s AI chatbot about the content on their screen, getting information from Gmail, Keep, Drive, and YouTube, and comparing tab content.

As part of the new launch, Gemini also supports languages including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil, in addition to English and Chrome’s other newly supported languages.

Google first introduced Gemini to Chrome in the U.S. through a floating window in September last year. The company launched its sidebar-based Gemini tool earlier this year.

Users who have access to this feature will see an “Ask Gemini” icon in their tab bar. Activating this icon will allow you to ask questions, summarize content, or create quizzes to understand topics from any tab. Google says Gemini can also work in multiple tabs. This means you can get answers by referring to different tabs, which can be helpful when comparing items to shop for or tickets to buy for your trip.

Gemini can also connect with a variety of tools to gain information and provide more personalized answers. You can also connect to Gmail, Maps, Calendar, YouTube, and other Google apps for contextual answers. For example, you can use Gemini in Chrome’s sidebar to compose emails directly and send them to others without leaving the window. You can also ask Gemini to summarize a YouTube video and list the main points with timestamps. The assistant can also schedule meetings or outline the day’s schedule.

Users can also convert images using Google’s Nano Banana 2 generation AI tool directly from Gemini for Chrome. For example, while shopping for furniture, you can upload a photo of the room and have your Assistant convert the image to see how the item will look in the room.
