Google on Tuesday announced that Gemini’s privacy features are now available to users in India. This feature allows users to connect their Google accounts, such as Gmail and Google Photos, and then ask Gemini questions to get personalized answers.
After connecting the service, users can ask questions like “What are your travel plans to Jaipur?” To get information from email or photos. This feature can also refer to recent YouTube videos the user has watched for inspiration. The company said Gemini will identify the source of the response so it can verify details if needed.
At launch, the Personal Intelligence feature will be limited to AI Pro and AI Ultra users in India. However, Google said it aims to expand to free users in the coming weeks.
Expansion into India brings Gemini’s capabilities to another sizeable market. Google first rolled out a beta version of Personal Intelligence for select paid tiers in the U.S. in January. The company made the feature available to all users in the U.S. last March and has also rolled out the feature in Japan.
Google warns that Gemini doesn’t always get the context of the data right and may link completely unrelated topics.
“Gemini may struggle with timing or nuance, especially when it comes to relationship changes like divorce or different interests. For example, if you see hundreds of photos of you on a golf course, you might assume that you like golf. But you’re missing the nuance: You don’t like golf, but you’re there because you love your son. If a Gemini gets this wrong, he may just say (“I don’t like golf”),” the company explained in a blog post.
The company is rapidly bringing advanced AI capabilities to users in India, one of its largest markets. Last March, the company launched Gemini on Chrome for users in the country. Last week, we partnered with platforms like Zomato, Swiggy and EazyDiner to enable agent flows for restaurant bookings through AI mode in India.
