Initially, the blog published not one, but two articles about Gucci in the same month. This is the first time the brand has been featured on Naina.co! (The first was the In The Name of Gucci book review I wrote for The Luxury Issue of Business Today, and this is the second.)
It would be sacrilegious to attempt to describe the collection or Trouble Andrew. Much has been written and published about this. Notable links include the W Mag interview with Trevor Andrew, “Trouble Andrew” on Instagram, the New York Times on the Gucci Renegade line, and a Dazed Digital article about an NYC graffiti artist who spray-painted a Gucci AW16. It’s amazing that Alessandro Michele brought Trevor on board and actually let him do what he does best. What a great way for old school luxury brands to gain public trust and “cool” points! We were very surprised that this actually happened, and not at all surprised that the collection skyrocketed. (I heard there is a 6 month waiting list for the real bag at the Gucci India store at DLF Emporio!)
And a fun party to celebrate it. The Gucci India team was as friendly as our hosts. The red wine was great and Edward Lalrempuia, who did the music, was so much fun! All the usual faces were present (bloggers, editors, musicians, artists, photographers, fashion designers, jewelers, regular customers and Gucci fans) and the party added more credence to the “relevance” that all old-school brands seem to strive for, without losing its original essence. Just because it’s been around for decades doesn’t mean a brand will continue to be relevant. Success in the marketplace largely depends on relevance in today’s attention-poor world. Now it is entirely up to the top management to either wait for the audience and consumers to recognize its relevance or hold on to the coattails and do what Gucci has done.
we are sure Gucci CEO Marco Bizzarri I’m rubbing my hands in joy that I made the right hiring decision. Trevor Andrew to Alessandro MichelePlease. It’s also better to create more value for your brand by engaging people who dodge the copyright infringement line instead of sending out take-down notices.
Did you know that Trevor Andrew is a “former Canadian Olympic snowboarder”?
