Hamas launches rocket attack against Tel Aviv area

Hamas said it had carried out its first rocket attack on Israel's central Tel Aviv region in nearly four months.

The Israeli military said at least eight rockets were fired from the Rafah area in southern Gaza, several of which were intercepted. No injuries were reported.

Israel is doing the following: Military operation in Rafah.

Sirens also sounded in other Israeli cities and towns, including Herzliya and Petah Tikva.

Israeli media released footage showing missile fragments falling in the garden of a building in Herzliya. Other footage showed debris damaging a bedroom in the home.

Other footage showed a large crater that appeared to have been created by a rocket in an open area near the central village of Kfar Saba.

Israel's ambulance service, Magen David Adom, said many people were being treated for acute anxiety.

Hamas' military wing, al-Qassam Brigades, claimed responsibility for carrying out a “large” missile attack on Tel Aviv through its Telegram channel.

Tel Aviv, Israel's economic center, is the largest city in Israel. The city has returned to some degree of normality since the attacks last January.

But now the Israelis once again hear the explosions of air defense systems intercepting Hamas rockets.

The group may be seeking to demonstrate its strength ahead of new negotiations expected to begin on Tuesday to end the conflict, or it may seek to derail them.

This missile attack occurred as the Israeli military intensified its attacks on Rafah, a city in the southern Gaza Strip. This is despite the International Court of Justice ruling that the offensive must be halted immediately.

Fighting was reported near Kuwait Hospital in the city.

Palestinian media reported that at least one person was killed and several wounded in an Israeli airstrike on a home in central Rafah.

According to reports, many of the injured were taken to Kuwait hospitals.

Israel launched an offensive in the southern Gaza city about three weeks ago, vowing to destroy the remaining Hamas battalions there.

The United Nations says more than 800,000 Palestinians have fled southern cities. About 1.5 million people were fleeing fighting elsewhere in Gaza.

Israel's military operation in the Gaza Strip began on October 7 after gunmen from Hamas, the group that rules the region, attacked Israel, killing about 1,200 people and taking 252 hostages to the Strip.

At least 35,800 Palestinians have died in the conflict since, according to Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry.
