I first came across Nitin Kartikeya’s work in October 2015 when I attended and photographed his runway show as part of Amazon India Fashion Week, Spring Summer 2016. At first glance it looked like “normal” Indian bling, but the more I looked at it, the more I could tell there was something different going on here. There was nothing “canonical” about Nitin’s work. As I do with most of my favorite pieces every Fashion Week, I take photos of the shows and post them on the blog.
And I forgot about it. The task is done, dusted off and moved on to other tasks. But a few days after I posted that article on my blog, Nitin contacted me on Instagram and introduced himself. After that, he asked me to stop by his shop in Hauz Khas Village, Delhi. And I’ve been trying to do that, but so far it hasn’t worked!
Bharat and I went on a short day trip to the Kartikeya India and IX by Kartikeya stores in Hauz Khas Village. In addition to beautiful content, the IX by Kartikeya store boasts a beautiful location. Nitin is showcasing his amazing work at a price that I can’t afford to pass up. 6,000 to 8,000 won for one jacket?! That seems crazy! And the clothes are modern and “hip”. Although he might hate me for using that label.
Nitin has been involved in the Indian fashion industry for some time and continues to maintain his passion. He has strong feelings about how the industry operates and how to improve it, and he lives up to his name by going to war to win!
