Helicopters spray water as homes are destroyed in a major fire in Norway.

Rescue authorities said a large-scale fire broke out in the Drammen region of southern Norway, destroying more than 100 houses.

Hundreds of people were evacuated from an area about 30 miles west of Oslo. To date, no casualties or missing persons have been reported.

Dozens of firefighters are working to extinguish the blaze that has spread to nearby forests. Local police said, “The fire is still not extinguished.”

It was not immediately clear where or how the fire started, but Drammen Red Cross staff said the weather caused the fire to spread quickly.

“It speaks to the heat we’ve had recently. It’s been very dry. So once the fires started, they spread quickly. That’s what we saw,” Thomas Evjen told Reuters.
