
Prime Food Processing LLC has recalled 69 cases of “dried fish” because the product was not properly removed.
The sale of ungutted fish is prohibited under New York State agricultural and marketing regulations. This is because Clostridium botulinum spores are more likely to be concentrated in the intestines than other parts of the fish.

- The recalled product was distributed to Asian grocery stores in AZ, CA, FL, HI, IL, KS, LA, MD, MO, NC, NH, NV, NY, OK, PA, TX, and UT.
This issue was identified during routine testing conducted by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. The recall was initiated after the products were selected and sent for regulatory testing. A subsequent investigation revealed that the problem originated from an imported product manufactured in Vietnam. There are currently no reported illnesses or side effects associated with this product.

For foodborne botulism, symptoms usually begin 18 to 36 hours after eating contaminated food. However, symptoms may begin as early as 6 hours later or up to 10 days later.
Symptoms of botulism may include some of the following: double vision, blurred vision, drooping eyelids, slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, or difficulty swallowing.
Shortness of breath, thick-feeling tongue, dry mouth, and muscle weakness. People with botulism may not have all of these symptoms at once.
If left untreated, the disease progresses and symptoms worsen, sometimes leading to paralysis of the muscles used for breathing and certain muscles in the arms, legs, and body parts from the neck to the pelvis.
