High-protein Greek yogurt bagel (perfect for breakfast!)

Bagels are one of those foods on store shelves full of artificial ingredients. And if you’re lucky enough to have an artisan bagel shop nearby, they can be pricey. Homemade bagels offer a great tasting option with high quality ingredients. And it tastes so much better!

Greek Yogurt Bagel Ingredients

We don’t eat a lot of grains in our house, but we do include some organic grains in our diet. Some Greek yogurt bagel recipes are made with bread crumbs or almond flour. This particular recipe uses organic all-purpose flour. You can easily find it at almost any grocery store. If you want to control the amount of yogurt used, you can also try using Einkorn or Spelled flour.

If you need a gluten-free bagel option, choose your favorite gluten-free flour blend.

Regular bagels are made with yeast, which gives them a slight rise. It’s much faster to make because you skip the yeast and fermentation time. Greek yogurt is naturally acidic and reacts with baking powder to give the dough a familiar bagel texture.

To give the bagels a better texture and color, I use egg wash on top. However, if you need to avoid eggs, you don’t have to make bagels without them.

How to Use Greek Yogurt Bagels

Greek yogurt bagels are super easy to make, but I often make them the night before. Enjoy with breakfast or as part of a breakfast sandwich. We love them toasted on sandwiches or slathered with grass-fed butter or cream cheese.

They also make great BLTs, sausage egg and cheese sandwiches, or just sliced meat, cheese, and lettuce for lunch. The kids loved it so much that it was gone before it even cooled down!

Variety of bagel flavor options

You can play around with the basic recipe to create different bagel flavors. Here are some of our favorites!

  • All About Bagels – Sprinkle all the seasoning on top before baking.
  • cinnamon raisin – 1 TBSP coconut sugar, ½ teaspoon cinnamon, and ? Add cup raisins to batter.

What type of yogurt should I use?

Greek yogurt is naturally thicker and higher in protein than regular yogurt. I prefer to use whole milk or full-fat Greek yogurt to give the dough a better texture. You can use non-fat or 2% Greek yogurt, but it won’t make a very good batter.

How much protein is in a Greek Yogurt Bagel?

Using organic flour, the protein content per bagel is just over 11 grams. Gluten-free flour blends vary in protein content.

Cooking and Storage Tips

Bake in the oven for approximately 22 to 26 minutes. You can also use an air fryer and cook at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.

The expiration date is approximately 3 days when stored in an airtight container. It tastes good the next day or can be frozen for later consumption.
