Homemade Chocolate Chip Protein Bars

I don’t really like sweets, but sometimes I want a healthy dessert. My kids especially love savory and sweet snacks. These homemade protein bars are full of chocolate flavor and creamy, salty nut butter. Easy to customize and perfect as a snack or dessert!

Homemade Protein Bars

It’s finally time for proteins to take center stage. I’m discovering more and more high-protein recipes on my Instagram feed and I love them! But unfortunately, not all of them use clean ingredients, and I often choose protein powders that contain fillers, which I don’t like. I’ve used cottage cheese in certain high-protein recipes before, but I can see that something about cottage cheese chocolate protein bars might not be popular with kids.

Instead, I use Equip Prime Protein powder. I keep several different protein powders in stock for days when I need an easy protein supplement. What I love about Equip is that it is made from grass-fed beef protein. No dairy, whey, or plant-based proteins (such as soy or pea). I’m certainly not against dairy or legumes, but they can cause digestive issues, including bloating, in some people. I find that beef protein powder is easier to digest and has no noticeable beef taste.

Customize your ingredients

I used chocolate protein powder in the batch of homemade protein bars pictured here. Vanilla would work, but salted caramel, mint chocolate, and iced coffee protein powder flavors would also be delicious. The equipment has all of these different flavors as options.

You can also use any nut butter of your choice here. I used peanut butter, but if you want more flavor, try hazelnut butter or walnut butter. There are so many great options!

The recipe calls for oat flour, but if you don’t have any, you can easily make your own with rolled oats. Simply place the rolled oats in a coffee grinder or a high-speed blender such as a Vitamix and grind to a fine powder.

If you’re avoiding grains or oats, try using some coconut flour instead. Start with 1 tablespoon of coconut flour and slowly increase the amount until you reach your desired texture. Coconut flour is very absorbent, so be careful here.

My kids love these homemade protein bars so much that I triple the amount every time I make them!
