Sometimes you need to add a little spice. This jalapeño salt recipe will do just that. Simple ingredients are rich in healthy minerals and make the perfect seasoning for meat, vegetables and even fruit.
Here you can easily adjust the spice level and use a little or a lot on your food. My older kids also like to sprinkle some on their meals.
How to Make Jalapeno Salt
This Homemade Jalapeno Salt literally combines mineral-rich salt with dried jalapeños to create a simple yet flavorful seasoning. It’s one of those little kitchen upgrades that makes everyday meals special without any extra work.
The process is surprisingly simple. Chop the peppers, dry thoroughly until crumbly, then mix with salt until finely ground. That’s it. The salt brings out the flavor of the jalapenos and helps keep them dry.
Homemade Jalapeno Salt Seasoning
Jalapeño seasoning is like an all-purpose finishing salt that pops. I like to sprinkle it over grilled chicken, grilled vegetables, scrambled eggs, or sliced avocado. If you like a sweet and spicy combination, it’s delicious with fresh fruits like mango or watermelon.
You can also try it in margaritas. If you like margaritas, you can make it with rim salt before serving. You can even stir a small amount into soup or taco meat for an easy flavor boost without the need for multiple spices.
The great thing about homemade jalapeño salt is that it’s easy to maintain. If you want a milder blend, remove the seeds and membranes from the peppers before drying them. If you prefer more heat, leave it alone.
If you’re sensitive to spice, wear a mask while blending, as the fine jalapeño powder can be surprisingly strong. I also recommend wearing gloves when chopping peppers! The oil in chili peppers can quickly burn your hands. Also, avoid touching your eyes when cutting. It’s never been a fun experience!
If you use Celtic sea salt, keep in mind that it is naturally more moist than other mineral salts. If it feels damp, spread it out on a baking sheet and let it air dry for a few hours, or gently warm it in the oven on the lowest setting for 10 to 15 minutes before blending. Too much moisture can cause lumps to form and shorten shelf life.
Jalapeno salt is an easy and delicious way to heat up your favorite foods!

-
Wash and dice fresh jalapeños. Spread evenly on dehydrator trays and dehydrate at 125°F for 6 to 10 hours until completely dry and crumbly.
-
Place dried jalapeños in a food processor and pulse 2-3 times to break into small pieces. (Omit if you want very fine salt.)
-
Add mineral salt to processor.
-
Pulse until fully combined and desired texture. Less blending will keep the clumps together. More mixing creates a finer seasoning.
-
Store in an airtight container in a cool, dark place.

Once you know how to make jalapeño salt, customizing it is easy. There are more flavor options to try.
- Smoked Jalapeno Salt – To make smoky jalapeño salt, lightly roast jalapeños at 250°F for 20 to 30 minutes, then dehydrate them for a deeper flavor.
- Garlic Jalapeno Salt – After mixing, add 1-2 teaspoons of garlic powder.
- Citrus Jalapeno Salt – Mix in 1 teaspoon of dried lemon or lime zest for a bright touch.
- Herbed Jalapeno Salt – Mix in ½ to 1 teaspoon of dried oregano or cilantro.
