Clear disparity in Caribbean airfares
The data shows three broad price ranges:
San Juan and Nassau stand alone at the bottom. Saint-Martin, Montego Bay, Cancun, Barbados, Aruba, Antigua and Grand Cayman occupy the middle of the market, between $572 and $702. Grenada, Punta Cana and St. Thomas form the upper tier, with rates starting at $931.
Airfares can change quickly, and Google Flights prices vary based on availability, departure airport, itinerary, and fare restrictions. Nonetheless, the survey provides useful information about the New York market for the popular late August travel week.
The biggest lesson is the size of the difference.
From a practical standpoint, Nassau may be the best option of the entire Caribbean region in our survey.. Although San Juan is more affordable, Puerto Rico’s capital is essentially a city trip with beaches nearby.
If you’re leaving New York for a traditional Caribbean vacation, flying from one major city to another may not give you the change of pace you’re looking for. Nassau offers an immediate island experience: turquoise waters, white sand beaches, full-service resorts, conch lodges, and Paradise Island just minutes from the airport. Only $114 more expensive than San JuanA better value for a true Caribbean vacation.
