Having completely shaved my head more than half a dozen times, the talk of empowerment and “boldness” annoys me. I usually shave my head only when I have a dandruff problem or feel like I can’t handle the North Indian heat. This time I didn’t want to shave completely. I wanted to get rid of the completely ruined pieces of color. I wanted to see what salt and pepper looked like. This took about an hour and a half to do. I first cut out the chunk with scissors and then continued over the skull with the trimmer set to 10mm.
I’ve never considered my ‘look’ before. But this time I wanted to do it right. I looked for articles and blog posts online, but most of them were disappointing. There was clearly no Indian representation until page 2 of the search results and my patience was wearing thin. I decided to experiment and see what works for me.
noodles
I have a rather chubby face, so shaving my head made me look chubbier.
My neck is short, so I think the chubby feeling will get worse if all the hair falls out.
I’m a bit chubby, so my stomach sticks out a bit, I don’t have hips, and my waist is slightly curved. I’m also not very tall, which compounds all of the above.
evaluation
Shaving your head will make your upper body/shoulders etc look bigger and wider. The head looks much smaller without it. I’ll have to fix that. You should also address the desire to make your neck, face, and torso appear longer. And I would do anything to make my silhouette look slimmer.

The photo above is a selfie I took with my cell phone right after I finished my haircut. I cut, styled and dyed my own hair and always have.
The remaining photos are also self-portraits, but were taken with a DSLR.
earring
I didn’t want to wear thick earrings, and I didn’t want to wear small earrings either. My goal was to make my face look longer and my neck look longer, so I chose a slim long one. Without the pearl drop, I would have gone with a thinner one, but I haven’t finished unpacking it yet and don’t know where the rest of the gems are. It hangs long but doesn’t reach my shoulders.
I am wearing gold plated silver earrings from Amrapali. This is mine I bought a few years ago. The ring has nothing to do with the shaved head look, but it is also my ring. The bracelet is gold-plated brass. I bought it directly from Dashia.in. The brooch also has nothing to do with the shaved head style, but is one I made for Khaosphilos called “Blue-Eyed”.
assembly
My goal with makeup was to keep it feminine. Bold red lipstick is nothing new to me, but I wasn’t sure how it would go with this hair. I wanted full lips and thick eyebrows, and I wanted to use bronzer to make my face look thinner than usual. So, apply bronzer not only under your cheekbones, but also on your temples, chin, and jawline. I don’t usually do this, but I wanted to try it this time and I think it worked. I want to avoid lipstick that is too dark. At least in my case, I want to avoid it because it makes my lips look thinner and more severe.
The lipstick is a mix of Nykaa’s Call Me Scarlet and Stila’s Beso (available at Sephora and Amazon). The beso that comes in the tube dries too quickly and flakes quite quickly, making application problematic. To prevent this and keep the color going, I mix it with Call Me Scarlet pencil. Foundation is Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush. This is the foundation I have been using for at least 4 years. I really like it. I had brown eyebrow powder on my eyebrows and also applied a black mascara wand on top.
shoes
A bold sneaker that balances out a voluminous upper body, or a statement boot that makes the silhouette longer and leaner, like the leather riding boots I’m wearing. In particular, black jeans were paired with dark brown boots. I wouldn’t venture into an apartment either. Even if it’s a half-inch heel, I think a heel would be better if my hair is this size.
The riding boots are made of leather and were given to me as a gift 12 years ago.
clothes
Clothing is best kept simple and streamlined. Clean lines, classic silhouettes, and neutral colors work best. I usually avoid bright colors or too many colors that I like. I wore my main travel outfit, black stretch/skinny jeans, a black t-shirt tucked in, and a black leather belt over the jeans. It was enough to create a border to make the torso look shorter, but it didn’t stick out and make the torso look boxier.
Uniqlo’s jeans are stretchy skinny pants. The t-shirt is Bleeding Heart, one of my favorite designs from Threadless. I have at least 4 of these.
next time
A sleeveless top might be a better idea next time. I don’t think the short-sleeved t-shirt helped with broadening my shoulders. I’m very conscious of my arms, so I don’t usually wear sleeveless clothes. they are weak I would also try thinner, longer danglers for the ears. Aside from that, I think this everyday casual look was also good. I’m thinking of trying a more formal look in the next few days.
And remember: It’s hair and it grows back. Unless you have a bald family member, it is recommended that everyone shave.
