Perfectly cooked egg whites and deliciously runny yolks create the perfect soft-boiled egg to add to your grain bowl, ramen, or enjoy for breakfast with your favorite toast.

How to make soft boiled eggs
There’s something truly captivating about a perfectly soft boiled egg. I love breaking it open to reveal a creamy, velvety yolk that I want to dip into. Whether you add it to your morning toast, serve it as part of brunch, or top your favorite grain bowl, it’s easier than you think. Here is my recommended cooking method. We have a cooking range depending on how much you like your yolks. If you like the yolk runny, cook for 6 minutes, if you like it a little harder, cook for 7 to 8 minutes. If you prefer to make it in the Instant Pot, see Instant Pot Soft Boiled Eggs. And if you don’t like runny yolks, try my hard-boiled egg recipe.

- Once the egg is in the water, start the timer. For soft boiled eggs with runny yolks, we recommend cooking the eggs for about 6 minutes. If you prefer yolks that are still soft but not tough, aim to boil them for about 7 to 8 minutes.
