How to survive in isolation from COVID-19

Our normal way of life has changed and the whole world is waging war against COVID-19, a pandemic virus. I was always afraid of illness, and I had a hard time catching colds. While we are all in isolation, I thought I would write a short blog post about how to survive this period of quarantine and/or isolation.

I usually spend a lot of time with my husband, but we usually go on trips, go shopping, eat a delicious meal somewhere, go to the gym, or even cook together. But this time it was a little different because there was no one around. It’s just the two of us in the house and we’ll be together 24 hours a day for the next two weeks or more. It’s like being stuck on an island or an intergalactic spaceship with only two people left alive. It’s actually going pretty well for us. As we check out how we’ve adapted to this new reality, here are some tips to help you stay sane with your loved ones (who you might be seeing more than usual right now!)

– Make a list of TV series or movies you both want to watch. I love having TV time. We usually watch it together while eating dinner in the evening. Bring some snacks and drinks and enjoy an hour or two of fun together when you don’t have to talk.

– Find time to exercise. Exercise is not only good for your health but also your mind. Find online workouts on YouTube and try them yourself. Sometimes, when the weather is nice, we play together in the yard. If you don’t have a garden, you can exercise while motivating each other.

– Play board games. I’m so glad I bought a bunch of games for two people to enjoy in my house. If you’re bored with just the two of you, invite your friends or family to join you online.

– Have an online drinking party with your friends on Friday night. Pour some wine and have fun in a digital group environment.

– Create or join a book club. Actually, I started a book club with my best friends 3-4 weeks ago. We picked a book we wanted to read and decided how many pages we would read over a certain period of time. We then have a chat call where we can talk about the book.

– Invest time in your blog and Instagram. I know it’s hard to create content right now, but you can write content you want to share and stay in touch with your followers.

– Read the book you wanted to read. Here’s a list of books I’ll read while I try to find time to read the books my friends picked for book club. I just read “Three Daughters” by Consuelo Saah Baehr and am currently reading one of Stephen King’s books (“Salem’s Lot”).

– Start creating. I love to draw, but I usually only do it when I feel inspired or meditative. It’s really soothing. My mom loves knitting and others love sewing. Try something new or do something you never had time to do before.

– Clean your house or closet. My house is almost always clean because I clean it every day, but I don’t really mind doing a deep cleaning, including wiping down all the doors, stairs, and windows.

– Transplant the plant. As the weather gets warmer, it is a good time to repot your plants. Actually, I’m thinking about using some seeds to plant something at home. Why not?;

– Take online courses. Since many schools are closed, there are many online course programs you can do today. Some websites you can check are: open.edu, Coursera, Khan Academy, lingua and you can also get apps like Duolingo to learn the language.

– Cook something you haven’t cooked before. It’s a great time to hone your cooking skills. There are many recipes on Youtube.

– Self-love. If you have forgotten how to take care of your skin, body, and mind, isolation and/or isolation is an ideal time to enjoy a bath, get your nails done, wear a face mask, or apply a hair mask.

I hope all these tips will help and color your day during these difficult and scary times we are living in. At least we are not experiencing war or something more destructive. Don’t be selfish by staying home, wash your hands and stay healthy!
