Formula 1 takes to the track one final time at one of the hottest venues on the calendar as the World Championships lead into the Hungarian Grand Prix ahead of the summer break. The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
The 11th round of the season in Budapest is the last race in four weeks, so it’s a prime opportunity for competitors to peak before they head off on holiday.
Kimi Antonelli will be brimming with confidence after a fine win in Belgium last time out, while his Mercedes team-mate George Russell retired after tangling with Lewis Hamilton on the opening lap.
Antonelli is 45 points ahead of Hamilton and 50 points ahead of Russell in the Drivers’ Championship and is likely to be the driver to beat at the Hungaroring.
However, the track characteristics should suit Ferrari due to the number of corners, so don’t rule out the possibility of Hamilton and Charles Leclerc taking the win.
McLaren has acquired one or two units in each of the last two years and the world champion will be hoping that a major upgrade package will keep him fighting at the forefront.
Hungarian GP Track – Hungaroring
The Hungarian Grand Prix has been on the F1 calendar since 1986 and is one of the most popular events for fans.
It is famous for its hard and twisty nature, and its difficulty in overtaking earned it the nickname ‘Monaco without barriers’.
However, it has featured some classic races over the years, including Michael Schumacher’s stunning strategic victory in 1998, Jenson Button’s first win in 2006, mixed conditions that caused chaos in 2011 and 2014, and Esteban Ocon’s stunning victory at Alpine in 2021.
Turn 1 is the main overtaking point, but the fight often extends into Turn 2 and then up the hill into Turn 4. The intermediate segment is about mechanical grip and keeping the tires alive in the last few slow corners.
Budapest Hungarian GP weather
In keeping with most of the European summer so far, dry weather is expected throughout the weekend in Budapest. Temperatures are warm, but not expected to be as hot as other recent events.
