Hyundai Motor Company provides free Tesla NAC adapters to electric vehicle customers

Hyundai Motor Company said Monday that customers who purchase or lease an electric vehicle before Jan. 31 will be sent a free charging adapter that will allow them to connect to Tesla’s Supercharger network.

According to Hyundai, the Hyundai Certified Adapter will allow drivers of Hyundai EVs equipped with CCS ports to access more than 20,000 Tesla Superchargers in the United States. Free adapters are available to eligible owners of model year 2024 and earlier Kona Electric, Ioniq Hatchback, Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 vehicles. Hyundai Motor Company announced that the 2025 IONIQ 6, IONIQ 5 N, and Kona Electric vehicles are also eligible.

Customers must request a free NAC adapter through the online MyHyundai owner portal.

Support for Tesla’s charging connector and charging port, called the North American Charging Standard, has accelerated since Ford and GM announced plans to integrate the technology into next-generation EVs in 2023 and sell adapters to make it accessible to current EV owners. . Until then, all EVs except Tesla used Combined Charging System (CCS) connectors.

Almost every other automaker has partnered with Tesla to provide NAC adapters to their customers. Some companies, including Lucid, are planning to integrate charging ports into future EVs.

The rollout wasn’t as smooth as some had hoped, and many non-Tesla customers are still waiting for their adapters. However, some automakers have started shipping adapters in recent months.
