Cameron Humphreys: Brings back memories of City youth during match against Arsenal

Cameron Humphries tells Sky Sports about his time growing up at Manchester City and facing Arsenal in the Carabao Cup with Port Vale.

Getting the chance against Arsenal brought back some memories for Cameron Humphreys, who grew up at Manchester City.

Despite Port Vale’s team remaining at the bottom of League 1, they put up a decent match against the Gunners when they met in the third round of the Carabao Cup last October.

“It was disappointing that the first goal was so lucky for them,” Humphreys said. “Honestly, I don’t think they bothered us as much as I thought they would. It was 2-0 against a top team. You can see what they did to European teams. I’m really proud of our performance.”

Humphries also made two cameo appearances in Manchester City’s FA Cup tie in 2015/16.

“It was surreal,” he recalls. “I feel like a complete donkey now, like I did a few years ago. I’m 27 years old, but I started out so young, so I feel like an old person. It’s a proud memory.

“It came back to me a few weeks ago against Arsenal. The stadium was full, the atmosphere was great. It was really exciting and a bit of a throwback for me.”

Rob Street believes he can find his ruthless streak again.

Lincoln forward Rob Street believes he can recapture the form that saw him excel on loan at Doncaster last season.

Rob Street has been a regular in the Lincoln City side competing for the top places, but is yet to find the goalscoring prowess he had at Doncaster Rovers last season.

During his loan spell in Ligue 2, his 12 goals in 22 games helped Dhoni win the Ligue 2 title. Things are a little different this season. The performance was good, but the goal was not achieved. However, he scored against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

“I think there were a few different reasons.” Street said. “Confidence is huge in football. When you run and play well, you feel almost invincible every time you step on the pitch. You know you will get your chance and score a goal.

“We’ve had a strong group together, a bit similar to what we have here at Doncaster, and if we can stick together and keep performing, we could be in a similar situation to what we had at Doncaster last season and I don’t see why we can’t do that.

“The best thing you can have as a player is belief in yourself. I’ve definitely tried to bring that to this season. I’m constantly learning. Different roles, different teams, trying to make an impact as much as possible. At the end of the day, we all want to play and perform and that’s the most important thing.”

Tom Barkhuizen: Preston is where I played my best football.

Barrow’s Tom Barkhuizen has told Sky Sports that his performance at Preston North End was the best of his career.

Tom Barkhuizen, 32 and currently playing for Barrow, can reflect a little more deeply on his achievements in football.

“Preston is where I played my best football and had the most fun,” he said of the club he played for from 2017 to 2022. “You probably only realized it after you left it. When you’re in your 20s, you’re constantly chasing progress and sometimes you forget to enjoy it.

“Looking back, those were the best five or six years of my career. Great team, great manager, great atmosphere. When I retire, I’ll look back on those years with a lot of pride.”

Barkhuizen is now enjoying his time back as a regular player at Barrow after struggling in his final season at Derby.

“Last year was difficult because I couldn’t play much,” he admits. “I thought I could have contributed more with my experience at that level, but that’s football, it’s not always up to you and sometimes you just have to get on with it. “A year ago, we got promoted and we played quite a few games so it was in the mix.

“I wanted to come to a place where I could make a difference as an older player, whether on the pitch or in the dressing room. I feel that way here. I have started every game since the first game of the season and off the pitch I am trying to be a leader and help us improve.”

Jack Lancaster: Traveling with the team while injured helped keep the buzz going.

Crewe Alexandra’s Jack Lankester tells Sky Sports how he stayed positive during a lengthy injury layoff.

Jack Lancaster got injured at a bad time. Having just moved to Crewe Alexandra, he performed well but ended up injured for most of 2025.

Even during his absence, he was determined to remain as involved as possible with his teammates.

“I did a lot of traveling with the team at the end of last year and before this game started,” he says. “I spoke to the manager to keep the game going. If I stayed home and watched TV, I would have felt worse, but being there and helping made me feel better. Hopefully, those days are behind us.

“I tried to bring as much energy and positivity as possible to game days. Even if I wasn’t, I still acted like I was in the squad and eligible for selection. It helped to see things from a different perspective, and I wanted to support the team as much as I could.”

Now 25, the move to Crewe was also his first time away from home. This gave him the opportunity to mature both on and off the pitch.

“I think moving helped me grow a little bit,” Lankester adds. “Living and adapting on your own is all a new experience.

“Other young people, like Max Sanders, are in the same boat and we help each other. We’re both southerners living in the north, but I’m enjoying it.”

Jamie Walker on his coaching journey and Hearts hopes

Jamie Walker talks to Sky Sports about the strike that earned him his Sky Bet League Goal of the Month double during Grimsby’s 7-1 win over Cheltenham.

Jamie Walker is still impressing on the pitch for Grimsby Town, but the 32-year-old has also begun taking steps beyond his playing career as he begins his coaching project at Bradford.

“I love coaching,” Walker said. “As I got older I started thinking about things after football. After getting promoted at Bradford I thought it would be a great opportunity to stay in the area and pass on my knowledge to the kids.”

“It’s still early days. I’ve only started for a few months but I’m really enjoying it. I recently obtained my B License and I love coaching and helping the younger guys.

“I have a son, and as he got older and started playing grassroots football, I couldn’t help but enjoy it. I really enjoyed it and became more interested in it. Now I’m really into it and loving it.”

Walker’s son is just as big a Hearts fan. This is where the Scot started his career, and where his heart (pardon the pun) still lies. He remains cautious but hopeful he can win the Scottish Premiership after such a good start.

“My son is definitely a Hearts fan,” says Walker. “He has no other choice to be with our family! He also has a bond with Grimsby and Bradford, but he still loves Hearts at heart. We go up and watch him often when we have time.

“I grew up going to games every week and have been lucky enough to play over 200 times for the club. I’ve seen them start and regress much before, but they’ve made a good start to the season. They’ve signed good players and have a strong manager, so hopefully this will be the year they achieve something special.”
