The Vistara brand will be phased out when Air India acquires Indian airline Vistara on November 12.
The move is part of Vistara’s owner Air India and Singapore Air’s plan to merge Vistara and Air India and shut down the Vistara brand by the end of 2022. The move can now be made as the Indian government has given Singapore Air approval to invest directly in Air India, according to Times of India and other media sources.
Tata Sons, which owns Air India, launched Vistara in 2015 in partnership with Singapore Airlines, which owns a 49 per cent stake in the airline.
In November 2022, Tata and Singapore Airlines agreed to divest the Vistara brand, with Singapore investing $250 million to acquire a 25.1% stake in Air India Group, which includes Air India Express and AirAsia India.
Vistara has announced that customers will be progressively unable to book flights for travel after November 11 from September 3. Itineraries can be booked through Air India.
