Indigo, Indigo, the largest airline in India -Indians, will start the first US codesham, the largest airline in India.
INDIGO will have a partner with Virgin Atlantic for Code Shades in the United States and Code Shades in Amsterdam and Code Shades in Amsterdam.
The current partnership is limited, but it can be an early stage for deeper integration of the indigo and the Atlantic joint venture alliance of Delta, Virgin Atlantic and Air France -KLM. The three CEOs of the three companies joined the Indigo CEO Pieter ELBERS at the press conference at the IATA annual general meeting on Sunday.
Elvis said, “We believe that this is a huge opportunity.
INDIGO has already used code chas with more than 30 domestic routes in India, along with Air France, KLM and Virgin Atlantic. And along with the Atlantic Code Shades, Indigo announced that it will start code shading with KLM from Amsterdam on Sunday to 30 destinations in Europe.
Delta CEO Ed Bastian said Delta said he was not currently trying to make a deeper integration with Indigo, but he said he did not exclude joint ventures.
“You can imagine the world when it happens,” he said.
Bastian added that Delta plans to return to India in the next few years. The airline finally flew to India for a while in early 2020 and saw a new path between New York JFK and Mumbai.
ELBERS is planning to start India-US service, but in 2027, the airline will not be determined after the airline starts delivering its own aircraft.
Indigo’s first US code shades will be released after serving Manchester in Mumbai on July 1 and then launched after launching Mumbai-Amsterdam on July 2. The route will be the first long distance operation of the airline. The airline also expects to add eight long -range cities next year, including London, Copenhagen and Athens.
Codeshare’s start date depends on regulatory approval.
Currently, Indigo’s long -distance route is operated with the lease Boeing 787 aircraft. But in 2027, the airline expects to provide the first of the 30 Airbus A350s ordered last year. ELBERS announced on Sunday that 30 of the 70 Airbus 350 options guaranteed last year will be shifted to a firm order.
This command is a major stage of the transition to Indigo’s global airlines since it was released 18 years ago as a domestic operator. Currently, airlines will fly to 41 international destinations and go with a wide range of domestic networks in 91 cities. Indigo plans to add 10 international destinations next year.
This month, Delta will fly in eight US destinations in Amsterdam, and the joint venture partner KLM will fly in 14 US destinations and five in Canada.
Virgin Atlantic serves four American cities in Amsterdam in June.
The airline did not pay attention to whether some of the Amsterdam and Manchester lines would become indigo Daegu.
INDIGO has more than 400 aircraft and ELBERS described as the world’s largest order, which includes a 500 flat airbus narrow body order recorded in 2023.
Bastian said on Sunday, “I don’t think there’s a more exciting airline in the world.”
Virgin Atlantic CEO Shai Weiss said last year that 7 million passengers flew between the United States and India. He said the potential of the market is “huge”.
