Indian Wells: Jannik Sinner faces Daniil Medvedev in first California final

Sinner won 21 of the 24 titles on hard courts and was in top form, winning in 1 hour and 23 minutes.

The 24-year-old is aiming to become only the third player, after Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, to win all six ATP Masters 1000 hard court titles.

“It was a great game. Very solid at the back of the court. I made the shot and felt like that was one of the keys,” he said.

“The serve was huge, so I tried to mix it up. From my perspective, it was very accurate and a solid performance.

“I thought the match would be more physical, but when both serve well, it’s hard to get into a rhythm with short scores.”

Sinner has endured a frustrating start to 2026, having failed to reach a single final prior to this event, but has found inspiration as he attempts to set that record straight.

It was in the first set that the mental damage took place as the Italian, who had won seven of their 11 meetings, dropped just four points on serve and broke twice.

Zverev struggled to find his serve rhythm in the opening set and Sinner made him pay, winning six of eight second serve return points.

The 28-year-old German held firm to save three break points in his second service game, but stayed on serve for the rest of the game, eventually falling behind 4-3.
