Indonesia celebrated its first Independence Day in its new capital, Nusantara, although the scale of the celebrations was scaled back as construction continued.
The country, which was under Dutch rule for centuries and occupied by Japan during World War II, wanted to officially open the city on the 79th anniversary of its declaration of independence in 1945.
But the project on Borneo has been plagued by construction delays and funding problems.
This is expected to be the greatest legacy of President Joko Widodo, who attended the event together with his successor Prabowo Subianto.
