Hamanei and his advisors were quickly replaced by a younger generation of commanders dominated by his son Mojtaba, the supreme leader, and senior leaders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. They are every bit as ideological as the old guard, but less cautious and prepared to take risks in what they see as the fight for the survival of the Islamic regime in Iran.
