Calls to remove Iran’s clerical regime were heard outside Iran’s World Cup opener.

Iranian-Americans gathered in Los Angeles to protest the presence of Iranian teams linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Iran striker Mehdi Taremi told reporters this week that political tensions between the United States and Iran are “diminishing the excitement” of the World Cup.
