Iran’s former supreme leader’s funeral ‘intense political moment’

Thousands of Iranians loyal to the Islamic Republic gathered in Tehran to mark the first day of the funeral of Iran’s former supreme leader.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in a joint US-Israeli airstrike at the start of the war.

Iranian state media said six days of memorial services would be held across Iran and neighboring Iraq before he was buried in his hometown of Mashhad on Thursday.
