
The area where the IDF says residents should not yet return stretches from Mansouri on the coast to Sheba in the east.
On Wednesday, the Lebanese army warned residents not to return to areas where Israeli forces had been stationed before their withdrawal.
Israel invaded southern Lebanon early last month as the IDF intensified its military operations against Hezbollah.
Hezbollah began its current conflict with Israel by launching rockets in and around northern Israel on October 8, 2023, a day after an unprecedented attack by Hamas in the Gaza Strip that killed about 1,200 people.
Hezbollah said it was acting in solidarity with the Palestinians after Israel responded to Hamas attacks in the Gaza Strip with a large-scale military operation. The Hamas-run health ministry said at least 44,330 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli airstrikes.
Beginning on October 8, Israel and Hezbollah engaged in increasingly violent gunfights. The Lebanese Ministry of Health said that at least 3,961 people were killed and 16,520 injured in Israeli airstrikes during that period. These figures do not distinguish between civilians and combatants.
Israeli authorities said that 31 Israeli soldiers and 45 civilians were killed in the Hezbollah attack. An additional 45 Israeli soldiers were killed during fighting in southern Lebanon.
In his first reaction after the agreement, Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem said he would work with the Lebanese army to enforce a ceasefire.
He said Hezbollah achieved a major victory by preventing Israel from destroying it. This is a story acceptable to supporters but unacceptable to others, given the scale of the loss of life and widespread destruction of land and property in Lebanon.
