Italy’s first win in the second match of the global cricket tournament was also their eighth 10-wicket win in the history of the Men’s T20 World Cup.

Italy joined the Netherlands as the only two European teams other than England to win the T20 World Cup.

Nepal, participating in their third T20 World Cup, were riding high after giving England a huge scare at the same venue on Sunday.

However, Sri Lankan-born wrist spinner Crishan Kalugamage picked 3-18, including captain Rohit Paudel, to help Nepal’s shot with three balls to spare.

The Sydney-bred Mosca brothers hit nine sixes and eight boundaries. Anthony’s 62 off 32 balls and Justin’s 60 off 44 demolished the Nepal attack in just 12.4 overs.

Sri Lanka rules over Oman

Earlier, captain Dasun Shanaka broke his own record of the fastest T20 half-century as Sri Lanka beat Oman by 105 runs at Pallekele.

Later, co-hosts and defending champions India faced Namibia in New Delhi.

Against a weak bowling attack, Shanaka’s 19-ball 50, Kusal Mendis’ 61 and Pavan Rathnayake’s 60 helped Sri Lanka post a tournament-high 225-5.

Oman labored to 120-9 in reply, with the wickets shared between five bowlers. Off-spinner Maheesh Theekshana took the lead with 2-11 from 4 overs.

Sri Lanka have two wins from two matches but are yet to meet Group B rivals Australia and Zimbabwe.

Oman’s 43-year-old Mohammad Nadeem became the oldest player to score a half-century in T20 World Cup history with his unbeaten 53 off 56 balls. Nadeem was one of the only two Omani batsmen to reach double figures with Wasim Ali scoring 27 runs.

Sri Lanka lost Pathum Nissanka and Kamil Mishra in the powerplay, but Rathnayake and Mendis produced a lively 94-run third-wicket stand off 52 balls.

Shanaka hit five sixes and hit a long-off off the very next ball to surpass the previous Sri Lankan record of a 20-ball half-century against India in 2023.
