Haas has signed Jack Doohan as a reserve driver for the 2026 Formula 1 season.
Doohan was a free agent after being released by Alpine in January, and started the 2025 season as one of the Race seats before being replaced by Franco Colapinto after just six rounds.
The 22-year-old Australian will back-up Oliver Behrman and Esteban Ocon at Haas and join Japan’s Ryo Hirakawa as a reserve option for the US-owned side.
”I am delighted to be joining the TGR Haas F1 Team. This is the ideal place to continue my Formula 1 career.” said Doohan, son of five-time MotoGP world champion Mick Doohan.
“I would like to thank the team for giving me the opportunity to grow and take on the big challenges of 2026 together. I look forward to working with the team and collaborating for a successful season.”
Doohan’s rookie campaign looked doomed before it even began, and speculation was rampant before the first race of the 2025 season that he would be replaced by Colapinto at the start of the year.
The speculation became reality after Colapinto failed to score a point in the first six rounds, despite being in an underperforming Alpine car that caused him to fail to score in the remaining 18 rounds.
Haas Team Principal Ayao Komatsu said: “I am personally very excited to have Jack join our team, given his strong racing history and experience as a reserve driver in Formula 1.
“The dedication required to stay sharp and race-ready, while also figuring out how the team works, etc. is difficult for any driver, especially one who is still keen to race again at this level. I have enjoyed getting to know Jack and we look forward to having him on the team and benefiting from his contributions.”
When will F1 Bahrain pre-season testing take place?
The introduction of the new regulations means there will be a robust schedule for three separate test events before the start of the 2026 season.
With the closed-door Barcelona shakedown now complete, F1 will next head to Bahrain for two ‘official’ pre-season tests. Media will be present at this time and live timings of the circuit will be provided.
The Bahrain test will be held over three days, from February 11th to 13th and 18th to 20th.
When is your first F1 race?
The team will then have two weeks to prepare for the season-opening round, the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne from March 6-8.
The first practice session of the season will be held on Friday 6 March, with qualifying taking place on Saturday 7 March and the opening race on Sunday 8 March.
