That idea is absurd. Jake Paul can’t actually beat Anthony Joshua. Right? Can you do that?
Paul is a social media star turned professional boxer. He’s beaten former UFC fighters Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, and boxed an older Mike Tyson in an unlikely but impossible event to ignore.
But unlike the cruiserweight Paul, Anthony Joshua is a big heavyweight with tremendous power and impeccable accolades. The 2012 Olympic gold medalist has twice won the heavyweight world championships.
But not only did Paul take the fight on December 19th, but those closest to him claimed he planned it and had every intention of winning.
Nakisa Bidarian, who co-founded the promotions company Most Valuable Promotions with Paul, said: Sky Sports News: “The fight is called Jake vs. Joshua and I expect Jake to win.
“Is he going to go in there and risk getting knocked out? Absolutely. That’s what boxing is about and Anthony Joshua is one of the biggest boxers alive, the biggest puncher, the most devastating knockout artist.
“But Jake has been predicting this since March of this year. He’s been planning this the whole time.”
As part of his preparation, Paul brought in elite sparring partners, including former cruiserweight champion and current top heavyweight contender Lawrence Okolie.
“What you can believe is that Jake is spending every minute of every day focused on how to beat Anthony Joshua,” Bidarian claimed.
“He has his own gym that focuses on boxing. He has the best trainers in the world and we consistently have the best sparring partners in the world for him.”
Bidarian believes there is no guarantee that Anthony Joshua will knock out Paul.
“If this fight goes to eight rounds and a decision is made and people start saying, ‘Oh this must have been fixed already,’ that just speaks to how unbelievable it is in terms of what he’s accomplished,” the promoter said.
“If he goes down, are people still going to say it’s fixed? No. Then they have to respect the fact that this guy got in the ring with someone with AJ’s level of experience and knockout power just 13 fights into his career.”
