Jamie Chadwick will become the first woman to test an IndyCar in 10 years in September.
The British driver moved to the United States to join Andretti at IndyNxt in 2023, and is now set to take to the track at Barber Motorsports Park on September 30.
She is the first female driver to compete in an IndyCar test since 2011 and hopes to secure a full IndyCar seat in 2025.
Tell to ~ Sky Sports News “As an IndyNxt driver, my goal is IndyCar,” Chadwick said ahead of the announcement.
“So to get the chance to drive an IndyCar for the first time and do it with Andretti, one of the biggest teams on the grid and with such a huge history, is going to be a really special experience.
“As we look to 2025, we want to give ourselves the ability to explore a number of options, preferably targeting a major series in IndyCar.
“Personally, it's a huge deal. I think it's the highest level I've ever driven or tested at.
“So just having that opportunity is really exciting. But ultimately, at some point in my career, I want to get to IndyCar. So this is the first step to feeling that out, having a chance to test it and see how it goes.”
Chadwick currently sits fifth in the IndyNxt standings, with a win and two top-five finishes, improving on his first year with Andretti.
“After a difficult 2023, we knew what we had to do, what steps we had to take to move forward, and I think we’ve done a reasonable job of that. I think we’ve been competitive everywhere we’ve gone,” she said.
“We had the highlights of the win and a lot of things, but ultimately, I still want to achieve more this year and I want to get more podiums and more results to put myself in a better position in the championship.
“There's a part of me that's happy with the progress we've made, but on the other hand, I think there's still a lot more we can do and achieve this season.”
Chadwick Praises 'Impressive' Mercedes DQ Squad
Chadwick recently reflected on the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix, praising Britons Lewis Hamilton and George Russell who lost their leaders after being disqualified at the end of the race.
Russell's win was disqualified after the race officials found his car was 1.5kg underweight, and the win eventually went to Hamilton.
“It was an incredible performance overall for Mercedes to be in a good position to lead the race or win with one of their two cars. Either way, barring the disqualification, I think it was very impressive for Mercedes,” she said.
“And to see them win the weekend before, of course, it's great for the championship and great for F1 because Ferrari were in the mix early in the season.
“First of all, being underweight is a fact. So I think the moment you find out that that's something on the cards, you're immediately disqualified. 1.5kg may not seem like a lot, but it's a huge amount in a Formula One car.
“If you compare it to actual lap time performance, I think it's about 0.005. In fact, if you compare it to a 70-lap race distance or a race distance, it's actually a pretty big amount. So that's one factor.
“But on the other hand, I think there are some things you can do to gain weight in a wrap, for example. George didn't have a wrap like that, so I don't know.
“I think that's one of the things that hurts a guy like George. He led that race, he won that race, but the rules are the rules and sometimes that's how it goes.”
Looking ahead to the 2025 F1 season, Chadwick said things are now in place with Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez already secured for next year.
She said it would be “exciting” to see Hamilton drive for Ferrari, while Williams were “very excited” because they “have a fantastic driver of Carlos' calibre”.
