Based on today’s NY Times article, we report on Javier Milei’s victory in yesterday’s Argentine National Assembly election. Argentines voted for the right in a “lesser of the two” type of response. They have serious reservations about him, but they don’t want to go back to the old ways of politics. Sounds familiar here on American Spoilers. I’m talking about people who support Trump because they are disillusioned with the Democratic Party. Just as Biden’s candidacy was a fiasco for the Democratic Party, so was centrist Sergio Massa’s 2023 candidacy for the Peronistas. In both cases, the main election issue was inflation. And in both cases, “tax the rich” would have been the solution.
