Why this rate stands out
St. Maarten remains one of the strongest non-stop markets in the Caribbean in the United States. Flights are consistently crowded as the island offers multiple tours from one destination. There’s French Caribbean dining at Grand Case, casino resorts and nightlife on the Dutch side, all-day beach hopping, and easy ferry connections to nearby islands.
This combination generally keeps fares higher compared to other Caribbean routes.
A non-stop ticket for under $400 heading into June puts this trip firmly in impulse travel territory. The timing also works particularly well. Although the island still has energy ahead of summer, the beaches and restaurants feel more comfortable and less crowded than during the winter peak season.

Saint Martin in early June
Early June is one of the best times to visit the island. The water temperature remains warm. The Beach Club continues to operate. Restaurants on both the Dutch and French sides are open. Hotel rates are generally lower in February and March.
Orient Bay still has beach chairs lined up and long lunches lasting well into the late afternoon. Grand Case remains one of the Caribbean’s strongest food towns, especially along Boulevard de Grand Case, where restaurants abound towards the streets and seafood arrives straight from the nearby docks.
Mullet Bay has one of the best beach afternoons on the island, especially once the cruise traffic dies down later in the afternoon. Simpson Bay maintains its usual rhythm of bars, live music and marina traffic. Friar’s Bay and Happy Bay tend to be quieter as we move into June.
Weather patterns at this time of year typically feature long stretches of sun followed by short showers. Sea conditions are generally calm enough for boat trips to Pinel Island or Anguilla.
The beaches that still define the island
St. Maarten’s beach lineup remains one of the strongest in the northeastern Caribbean. Because each stretch of sand feels completely different from the next beach.
Maho Beach is still crowded with people arriving overhead, but it’s also one of the most active social beaches on the island. There’s a bar right behind the sand and there’s a constant stream of people coming in from nearby resorts. Mullet Bay is quieter with white sand and stable water conditions, making it ideal for long swims.
Orient Bay offers a completely different atmosphere. The beach is lined with restaurants, loungers and water sports operators from one end to the other. Music blasts from beach bars all afternoon. Lunch service tends to extend well past noon.
On the French side, Grand Case Beach remains one of the island’s quieter beaches, especially near the northern tip. Kupecoy has a small bay surrounded by cliffs and limestone formations. Dawn Beach is constantly visited by snorkelers because the water is clear even on calm days.

In Grand Case, places like Ocean 82, Bistrot Caraibes and Le Cottage draw visitors from across the island every night of the week. Rainbow Café is one of the strongest beach lunch spots on the French side, especially around sunset.
On the Dutch side, Sale & Pepe in Simpson Bay has long been popular for its Italian fare, while The Palms at Simpson Bay Resort continues to draw crowds for a casual waterfront dinner. Emilio’s near Phillipsburg continues to stand out for its historic plantation atmosphere and fine Caribbean cuisine.
The island’s lolo scene still influences its food culture, too. Grand Case’s outdoor grill sends smoke out into the street every evening. Ribs, lobster, johnny cakes and snapper served on plastic trays along with cold beer and rum punch.
