West Ham have made an offer worth £57m for Aston Villa striker John Duran.
Villa are said to not want to sell and value Duran at more than £70m.
West Ham have a long-standing interest in Duran, who recently extended his contract until 2030, and new West Ham manager Graham Potter is said to be a huge fan.
The Hammers attempted to sign Duran in the summer but failed to meet Villa’s valuation.
The 21-year-old has scored seven goals in 19 Premier League appearances this season and Olly Watkins has been named as Unai Emery’s preferred forward.
He joined Villa Park from MLS side Chicago Fire in January 2023, but started just seven of his 54 league games.
Will Villa be able to provide enough opportunities to sustain Duran?
Sky Sports’ Laura Hunter:
“West Ham are testing the waters with this bid. Clearly they believe that a sum close to that offer would at least be enough to tempt Villa to the negotiating table.
“It wasn’t long ago that Duran innocently threw up an ‘Iron’ sign. Instagram Live to hear the summer interest of Londoners. He gave it up immediately and has since proven his worth at Villa, scoring 12 goals in all competitions.
“Oli Watkins believes the two can play together – he said so after Villa’s draw with Arsenal on Saturday – but the man who will have to convince is Unai Emery, who is reluctant to start Watkins and Duran as a credible partnership. no see.
“Questions remain as to whether 602 minutes in the Premier League will be enough to sustain Duran’s growing appetite. The striker could lead the line at several top clubs and Watkins’ credibility and experience are currently standing in his way. “
