Crystal Palace have signed Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen for a club record £48m.
Palace paid a fixed fee of £43m for the striker, plus £5m in add-ons.
Strand Larsen is leaving Wolves, the bottom club in the Premier League, after 18 months. He scored 14 Premier League goals last season as Wolves stayed in the Premier League under Vitor Pereira, but has managed just one goal this season.
Palace have broken their transfer record twice in this period since purchasing Brennan Johnson from Tottenham Hotspur.
A deal for the Norwegian striker has been completed. Jean-Philippe Mateta Transfer from Palace to AC Milan The deadline is after further medical tests for the France international.
Mateta will remain a Crystal Palace player after the failed move. That means he’ll be linked to Strand Larson.
Palace also offered £20m for the Everton winger. Dwight McNeil It was approved before the deadline and the deal sheet was submitted to complete the deal after the period ended.
Carra: Strand Larsen passes Mateta for Palace.
Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports:
“I think there’s a lot of interest in Strand Larson because he’s a good player, but people don’t buy him based on his performance this season.
“He’s playing in a really bad team and he hasn’t played of late and been on the bench a lot. I think the club wants to bring him in and bring in some money.
“Watching him last season, he wasn’t a true top striker, but he certainly looked like a striker who wouldn’t be associated with playing in the lower tier.
“He can definitely play in a mid-table team. The biggest thing that stands out compared to last season is the goals. To score 14 goals without a penalty takes work.”
“I think Mateta will be on the bench when Strand Larsen comes in. I don’t think Crystal Palace is a team that plays with two strikers.”
“They like having two number 10s who are a big part of their system. It will be interesting to see how the two approach that.
“They will be few. Mateta, for how few he is, his hold-up is fantastic. He is missing a lot of big chances.”
Mateta needs to rejoin the Palace squad
James Sabundra from Sky Sports News:
“Jean-Philippe Mateta was looking for a new challenge this transfer window. His new challenge is to rejoin the Crystal Palace squad.
“He will not leave Palace on deadline day. AC Milan were considering whether to proceed with a contract for Mateta but decided against it after the medical test.”
“We know he is looking for something new. He wanted to be rewarded for his performance at Palace over the last two seasons, with only Erling Haaland scoring more goals than him.
“However, he will remain as contract negotiations between Palace and Mateta have not yet progressed. He has 18 months remaining on his contract.”
