Joshua Buatsi defeats Zach Parker by controversial decision in British light heavyweight bout | boxing news

Jack Parker says he is “pissed off” after losing a controversial decision to fellow British light heavyweight Joshua Boissy on Saturday.

One judge scored the match a 95-95 draw for Manchester, while the other two deemed it a 96-94 win for Buatsi.

After suffering his first loss in five fights to drop his record to 27-4, Parker insisted the decision should go his way.

He told DAZN: “I’m angry. I won that fight easily. I think everyone in the arena said I won.”

“I literally won almost every round. If I send him a letter and he can’t even touch me, I should be champion now and go on to bigger fights.”

Many stadium observers thought Parker had done enough to win a poor contest.

“Everyone has eyes and can see the fight,” Parker added. “He can’t even land a hit on me. I should be the champion. I was just annoyed.

“I probably would have given him one round, but that was early. In the later rounds, he couldn’t even catch me. I was comfortable there.

“I have to keep fighting for bigger titles and bigger money. I’m trying to change my daughter’s life and those are the decisions I make.”

Olympic bronze medalist Buatsi (20-1) returned to his winning ways after suffering the first loss of his professional career to Callum Smith in February.

“I have to admit it wasn’t my best performance,” said Buatsi. “But what do champions do? They win. Whatever happens, you accept it.”

‘You can’t stand on the floor six times and claim victory.’

The fight was marred somewhat by excessive holding throughout, which resulted in Parker falling from the clinch to the canvas several times.

Both men felt the other should be punished for their tactics.

“What do you want me to do if he pushes me away,” Parker said.

“I can’t keep lifting him. He’ll be wasting energy with 14 stone or whatever. If he’s pushing me down, the referee will probably have to say, ‘Don’t push him down’ and he won’t keep going down to the floor.

“Sometimes I’m a little sloppy, but if that’s how I can win a fight and outbox the guy and stab him in the head all night, he’ll never get a shot at me.”

Buatsi, the judges seemed to agree, was unimpressed with Parker’s tactics.

Buatsi siad said, “I don’t know what style that is.”

“You’re constantly on the floor. You can’t be on the floor six times and claim you won the fight.”

The controversial nature of the decision is likely to fuel calls for a rematch, but the lack of entertainment the fight generated may make Buatsi’s new promoter Frank Warren think twice about making such an option.
