GB track stars Keeley Hodgkinson and Dina Asher-Smith have offered hilarious criticism of West Ham after claims the club could prevent London from hosting the 2029 World Athletics Championships.

It has been reported that the club does not want to give up use of the stadium for as long as necessary.

Hodgkinson has won Olympic gold and silver medals in the 800m and also recently won the World Indoor Championships.

Highlighting the story on his X account, Hodgkinson wrote: “Team GB will bring more medals to that stadium than West Ham have seen in their entire history.”

Asher-Smith, a three-time Olympic gold medalist who won 200m gold at the 2019 World Championships, also took to social media to call for West Ham’s support for the event.

“We literally kicked off something today at the Olympic Park ahead of London 2028/29,” she wrote.

“West Ham, please don’t play with us.”

The London Stadium was built for the 2012 Olympics and was the stage for iconic Olympic moments before becoming the home of West Ham United Football Club.

The stadium has continued to host track and field events, including the 2017 World Championships.
