Ruben Amorim believes Kobe Mainu is the future of Manchester United despite speculation surrounding his future.
Amorim has not started a single Premier League game for Mainu this season, with his last league start coming in a 2-0 defeat to West Ham in May.
The injury to Bruno Fernandes, whom Amorim describes as a contender for Mainoo, could give the 20-year-old a chance once he recovers from a calf injury and his manager insists he sees the player’s future at Old Trafford.
“Kobe Mainu will always get the opportunities he has,” Amorim told a press conference ahead of the Boxing Day clash with Newcastle. sky sports.
“He has played in a variety of positions. We talked about Casemiro’s position and he can do that. If he plays with three, he can play like he did in the last game with Mason Mount and play there.”
“He will be the future of Manchester United. I think he just needs to wait for his chance and in two days everything in football can change.”
Mainu is unlikely to leave in January
Mainu’s lack of game time under Amorim has sparked interest from Premier League and European clubs, with both loan and permanent moves being mooted for the England international.
But with Fernandes injured and the players sidelined for the Africa Cup of Nations, Amorim admitted Mainu is unlikely to leave in January.
“It’s difficult (to let Mainoo leave) if we don’t get someone. We’re shorter,” Amorim said.
“Even with a full squad, we are short-lived in terms of what can happen here.
“We are a club with a big responsibility. We are dealing with all these issues and in everyone’s mind we have to win every game and there are no excuses. So if we don’t get a replacement it will be difficult for him to leave the club.”
“A few days before (his injury) we were talking about Kobbie not getting the minutes he deserves or the time he needs. Then there’s an opportunity, but Kobbie’s not there.
“Sometimes you have bad luck, and this year we’ve had some bad luck.”
Manchester United stick to their January plan
With numbers lacking, United may need to be active in the January transfer window with one of the many suitors interested in Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenho.
Whatever deal is reached, it will not be an embarrassment as Amorim insisted the club would stick to its plans regarding the potential undertaking.
“We are struggling at the moment but the club has a plan and we will stick to it,” he insisted.
“If we have the opportunity to bring in a player who we think will be the future of the club, he will come.
“If you look at the team, once we have a full squad we should get more quality from that group. If we can bring in good people, if not we will spend money in the summer.”
