Tens of thousands of women marched through the streets of Kolkata and other parts of the Indian state of West Bengal on Wednesday night.
They were protesting the rape and murder of a resident doctor at a national hospital last week.
The protests have been dubbed India's largest ever “Reclaim the Night” protests and are modelled on Western movements in the 1970s when women demanded safer public spaces at night.
