A group of federal lawmakers has asked the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service to halt efforts to increase line speed limits at some poultry processing facilities and eliminate maximum speeds at certain pork processors.

“Line speed limits exist to protect workers and food safety, and increasing these limits without new safeguards will only worsen the risks,” the group led by Sen. Cory Booker, D-NJ, and Rep. Ro Khanna, D-CA, wrote in a letter to FSIS Assistant Secretary for Food Safety Mindy Brashears.
