Liam Brody delays comeback after suffering concussion in freak accident | tennis news

Liam Broady will miss next week's Rothesay Open in Nottingham after suffering a concussion when he hit his head on a car boot.

The 30-year-old has been out of tournaments since March due to an ankle problem but was due to return home at the Nottingham Tennis Centre.

But Broady revealed his latest bizarre setback on Twitter, formerly known as X, saying: “I have some bad news… I was on schedule for next week, but on Sunday evening I hit my head on a car boot.

“I tried to practice yesterday and had a pretty bad migraine. It turned out I had a concussion, so I won’t be ready for Nottingham and hopefully Ilkley if all goes to plan.”

Broady received no sympathy from Andy Murray, who responded in typically caustic fashion. “I think this is the first time I’ve read one of your tweets and believed it.”

Brody, who defeated Casper Ruud last summer and advanced to the third round of Wimbledon, entered the top 100 for the first time in September of last year, but fell back to 147th after a long absence.

He will now hope to return to action at the Challenger Tour event in Ilkley starting on June 17.

Meanwhile, British number one Cameron Norrie received a wildcard into the Nottingham tournament after suffering a first-round loss at the French Open.

Norrie, who will be playing at Tier 2 Challenger level for the first time since 2020, joins Dan Evans in the main draw, with both hoping to follow in Murray's footsteps as champion.
