This limoncello spritz recipe is easy to make with prosecco, limoncello, and club soda. This bright and bubbly Italian cocktail is my ideal summer drink!

This limoncello spritz recipe is one of my favorite drinks on a hot summer day. Bright, fizzy and refreshing, this Italian cocktail is a simple combination of three ingredients: limoncello, prosecco and club soda.
I first tasted limoncello, an Italian lemon liqueur, on the island of Capri shortly after I got engaged to Jack. The sweet, citrusy liqueur seemed to magically appear on our table every night after dinner. Since I (obviously) love lemons, I thought this would be the perfect way to end each meal while dining al fresco on a summer night in Italy.
It didn’t take long for my love of limoncello to turn into a love of limoncello spritz. Unlike the bitter Aperol Spritz, the Limoncello Spritz is sweet and lemony. During my trip to Italy, I ordered it countless times as a pre-dinner drink… I came home and learned how to make it myself. Fortunately, it couldn’t be easier. Get ready to make this simple cocktail all summer long!

What is limoncello?
Limoncello is an Italian lemon liqueur made by soaking lemon peels in vodka or ethanol, which releases a fragrant oil. The infused alcohol is mixed with simple syrup to create a sweet liqueur. It is mainly produced in southern Italy, including the Amalfi Coast and Sicily.
In Italy, limoncello is often eaten as a digestif after a meal, and I had it for the first time in Capri. It is always served cold in a small cup or glass. It’s also delicious when added to cocktails like this Limoncello Spritz!
Limoncello Spritz Ingredients
Here are the ingredients you need to make the Limoncello Spritz Cocktail:
- limoncello, of course! I personally like the Caravella brand, but I think any Italian limoncello would work well here.
- prosecco – Prosecco is a sparkling wine produced in Northern Italy. It is a basic ingredient in other Italian spritzes such as Aperol spritz and Hugo spritz. Look for the one labeled “brut,” which is the least sweet. In times of crisis, kava is a good substitute.
- club soda or sparkling water – Balances the cocktail and gives it a nice, fizzy kick.
I love garnishing cocktails. lemon slices and fresh mint leaves. Other fresh herbs, such as basil or thyme sprigs, would also be delicious. Use what you have!

How to Make Limoncello Spritz
Like the classic Aperol Spritz, the traditional Limoncello Spritz uses a 3-2-1 ratio of ingredients: 3 parts prosecco, 2 parts limoncello, and 1 part club soda. Here’s how to make it:
- Fill a wine glass with ice.
- Pour in the prosecco, followed by limoncello and club soda. Stir gently to mix.
- Add any decorations you like and enjoy!
Recipe Tips
- Taste and adjust. We’re calling for classic proportions here, but it’s perfectly acceptable to tweak this cocktail to your liking. For a sweeter, stronger lemon flavor, add more limoncello. Or, if the limoncello is too sweet, add more prosecco. Keep in mind that melting ice will dilute your drink.
- Make it right before serving. This is not a cocktail that is recommended to be made in advance. A great limoncello spritz is nice and fizzy. Pour in the prosecco and club soda just before serving to ensure maximum fizz.
