The Lookout Community mini-football stadium in Montserrat is not included in the list of the best football stadiums in the world. At least I doubt that’s true. These lists most often celebrate the largest stadiums. Think of Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca (capacity: 87,523) or North Korea’s Lungra May 1 Stadium (any venue) with a capacity of up to 150,000…
As you can see in the image above, there is no seating for people in the Lookout’s small arena.
However, thanks to its sublime surroundings, watching a football match here is limited to standing room only.
Like the nearby Blake Estate Stadium, Lookout Mini Football Field was built with funding provided by FIFA to help revitalize Montserrat following the eruption of the Soufriere Hills volcano in the 1990s. Of course, you won’t be able to see a full-blown 11v11 match here. After all, Lookout mini soccer field is Mini size. Instead, the site will be used for training sessions and youth activities.
Notably, Lookout Mini is one of two FIFA-sponsored mini fields on the island. (Pretty amazing for a small island with a population of less than 4,500). But another smaller stadium, located further south in Salem, is not at all as scenic.
Lookout Mini is perched atop a windswept beach hill at the eastern end of Lookout Village. Below and to the north, Marguerita Bay extends into the untamed highlands. Silver Hill rises to the west. If you look east toward the horizon, Antigua is clearly visible.
Certainly, the scenery here easily distracts attention from the sport.
Is this the most beautiful soccer stadium in the world? I’m not sure about that, but it would definitely be my personal world’s greatest list.
