Saquon Barkley sizzled in the snow as the Philadelphia Eagles survived a late scare to beat the Los Angeles Rams 28-22 in picturesque but dramatic playoff conditions to advance to Sunday’s NFC Championship Game.
After a 62-yard house call in the opening quarter, Barkley extended his team’s lead to 28-15 with a 78-yard touchdown run that took him 205 yards on the night with five minutes to play, continuing his phenomenal first year. Philly surpassed 2,000 rushing yards during the regular season.
Second-year defensive tackle Jalen Carter starred for the Eagles with two sacks, two tackles for loss and a forced fumble as the Rams were made to pay for costly turnovers.
Jalen Hurts went 15 of 20 for 128 yards and a touchdown, while Matthew Stafford threw for 324 yards and two scores as the Rams saw their campaign come to an end.
The Eagles will now face Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders for a spot in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans next weekend, a month after losing 36-33 in a thriller against their NFC East division rivals.

As Rocky Balboa music played in Philly, snow fell and the second half was filled with slips, slides, drops, drama, and a bit of chaos from Saquon.
The Rams threatened a late twist at Lincoln Financial Field when Stafford connected with Colby Parkinson on a 4-yard touchdown with 2.48 to play just after Barkley thought he had iced the game with a 78-yard score of his own.
As the next Eagles drive stalled, Stafford, armed with 51 game-winning drives to his name, stunned the Eagles with a 37-yard strike to Puka Nacua after converting to Demarcus Robinson on 3rd-and-10. A superb leap from the sideline to move his team to the 21-yard line with 1.33 remaining.
After a false start penalty on Kevin Dotson put Los Angeles back on 2nd and 12, Carter sacked Stafford moments later for a 9-and-out on 3rd and 2 to seal the game. With one last chance, the Rams quarterback couldn’t find Nacua as the Eagles breathed a sigh of relief.
Touchdown runs by Jalen Hurts and Barkley gave the Eagles a 13-10 lead at the break, and Joshua Karty’s 34-yard field goal evened it on the opening drive of the second half, which was affected by heavy snow.
Jake Elliott responded with a 44-yard field goal to restore the Eagles’ lead, but there was no scare after Hurts suffered a knee injury following a devastating hit from hard-hitting safety Jaylen McCollough. The quarterback was taken to a blue tent for treatment before returning wearing a knee brace.
His lack of mobility appeared to continue the pain as Neville Gallimore brought him down to safety to pull the Rams within 16-15.
Rams running back Williams would feel the wrath of an inspired Carter, who successfully punted the ball before seeing teammate Isaiah Rodgers run the ball back to the 10-yard line. Barkley was subsequently trapped at the 1-yard line, but where the Eagles might have normally opted for a ‘tush push’, they instead turned to Barkley again in light of Hurts’ injury.
This led to another stop by the Rams defense and a false start penalty on Lane Johnson, allowing the Eagles to settle for Elliott’s 23-yard field goal attempt to make it 19-15.
Carter wasn’t the only former Georgia Bulldog to riot. Nolan Smith made his presence felt for the Rams by forcing another fumble. This was recovered by Zach Baun to cap Elliott’s 37-yard kick for a 22-15 lead. 6.18 left.
Knowing that it was snowing, both teams detonated traps to pursue the initial stronghold. And it was the Eagles who struck first on their sixth play from scrimmage as Hurts broke free for a 44-yard rushing touchdown and Elliott missed the ensuing extra point. It was the longest stretch of any Eagles quarterback’s NFL career and was an immediate reminder of Philadelphia’s read-option threat through Hurts and Barkley.
The Rams responded immediately when Tyler Higbee dragged Stafford’s needlepoint dagger between two defenders on the goal line for a 4-yard touchdown at the end of a 13-play drive.
Possession appeared to be stalled on 3rd-and-7 when Stafford’s low pass to Higbee was ruled incomplete, with only Sean McVay able to make a successful challenge. Williams later converted on fourth-and-goal to set up first and goal at the 4-yard line.
Barkley’s moment wasn’t far behind. The NFL’s leading rusher followed a bruising Mekhi Becton block with a 62-yard touchdown and a 13-7 lead.
Karty cut the lead to three with a 30-yard field goal before Verse delivered drive-derailing sacks on Philadelphia’s next two possessions heading into halftime.
