Tanzania's Serengeti National Park, famous for its wildlife migration, is seeing a surge in upscale accommodation, with two lodges recently opening and a third in development.
One Nature Mara River Lodge opened this month in the northern Serengeti near Kogatende Airfield. The lodge features seven villas, including a two-bedroom presidential villa with views of the Great Migration River Crossing. The lodge boasts contemporary African design with eco-friendly amenities such as a private heated pool, outdoor lounge area and solar-powered air conditioning. Guests can participate in exclusive game drives, hot air balloon safaris, walking safaris and nature-based wellness experiences.
For a one-bedroom villa, rates start at $1,653 per night.
Singita Milele, a five-bedroom villa on Sasakwa Hill, boasts sweeping views of the 350,000-acre Grumeti Reserve and a custom design inspired by the surrounding wildlife. The villa features individual suites, each with its own unique layout and special features, as well as shared spaces such as a cinema room, fitness centre and heated spa pool. Guests can enjoy private game drives, guided walks, wellness treatments and carefully selected wine tastings. Rates start from $26,250 per night for up to 10 guests. TAASA Migration Camp, a mobile tented camp designed to follow the Great Migration, is scheduled to open in July 2025. The camp features 12 suites with connecting options for families and groups, unlimited game drives, hot air balloon safaris, a lounge, bar tent, outdoor fire pit and gift shop. The camp moves throughout the year to Kogatende, Ndutu and Musabi Plains areas, ensuring guests are always close to the migrating herd. Rates start from $905 per person (shared).
