Wilderness Rwanda has unveiled Bisate Reserve, an exclusive property adjacent to Volcanoes National Park that offers luxury for gorilla trekking enthusiasts.
The intimate lodge accommodates just eight guests in four thatched villas. Each villa has a private deck with a hot tub, fireplace and 360-degree views of all six Virunga volcanoes. The property serves as a sister lodge to the existing Wilderness Bisate Lodge.
Designed by architect Nick Plewman and interior designer Caline Williams-Wynn, the lodge combines traditional materials including thatch, wood, hand-carved volcanic rock and local basketry. Facilities include a mudroom for trekking preparations, a climate-controlled wine tower and a private Bisate Kwanda day lounge.

Executive Chef Angelus Karangwa oversees a culinary program highlighting East African flavors and locally sourced ingredients from two on-site kitchen gardens. The lodge offers both private in-villa dining and communal experiences.

In addition to gorilla trekking, activities include golden monkey viewing, mountaineering, and hiking to Dian Fossey’s former research center. Cultural experiences include sessions with local artist Rigobert Uwiduhaye, whose gorilla artwork is on display throughout the property.
The lodge represents a significant conservation investment, with Wilderness planting more than 100,000 trees, converting 42 hectares of land from farmland to forest.
