
French President Emmanuel Macron briefly explained his plans for a big increase in defense spending.
In a speech with the army in Paris, he said, “We live in the central moment,” he said.
MACRON urged France’s defense expenditures to increase £ 3.5 billion next year and to increase 3 billion euros by 2027.
He mentioned Russia’s threat and accused the “imperialist policy” and “power is merger.”
The fight has become intense since Moscow began to invade Ukraine in February 2022.
Macron has doubled his military budget by 2027, three years before the original plan.
In 2017, his country’s defense budget reached 32 billion euros, and this plan would increase 64 billion euros in two years. This proposal must still be approved by the French government.
“You have to be afraid to be free in this world. You must be powerful to be afraid.”
Macron said the world is witnessing nuclear profits and “spreading major conflicts.”
He also mentioned Iran’s bombing between India and Pakistan and the US bombing of the United States, called “Ukraine’s ups and downs.”
Last month, NATO member states agreed to spend 5%GDP for defense every year from 2%of previous goals.
The UK also announced its own defense review with Secretary of Defense John Healey.
On Friday, Thierry Burkhard, head of the French army, said Russia saw France as “major European enemy in Europe.”
Russia has raised a “durable” threat to Europe, Burkhard added that the ranks of European countries in the world are being decided in Ukraine.
French Prime Minister France is expected to budget for next year.
