Maduro hearing courtroom

Former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro appeared in court in New York for the first time since his arrest by U.S. forces in Caracas on January 3.

Maduro and his wife, Celia Flores, appeared before a judge wearing handcuffs and leg shackles. They are scheduled to be tried on charges including drug terrorism. Both men have pleaded not guilty.

The BBC’s former president Madeline Halpert was inside the courtroom as she addressed the judge.
