
Scholz, who visited the market early Saturday, described the attack as a “horrible tragedy”, saying “too many people were injured and killed by this brutality” in a place that “should be joyful.”
He told reporters there were serious concerns about those seriously injured and that “all resources” would be allocated to investigating the suspects behind the attack.
Saxony-Anhalt Prime Minister Rainer Haseloff previously said preliminary investigations showed the suspect had acted alone.
Prosecutor Horst Walter Nopens said Saturday that the investigation was ongoing but that one potential motive for the attack “could be dissatisfaction with the way Saudi Arabian refugees are treated in Germany.”
