Manus is probably not China’s second ‘deep moment’.

Manus, a “agent” AI platform that started in the preview last week, is creating more over -advertising than the Taylor Swift concert.

The product head of Hugging Face is called Manus. Dean Ball explained Manus as “the most sophisticated computer using AI.” Manus’s official DISCORD server has grown to more than 138,000 members in a few days, and the manus code sells thousands of dollars at the Chinese reseller App Xianyu.

But it is not clear that over -advertising is justified.

Manus was not completely developed from the beginning. According to a report on social media, the platform uses a combination of existing and fine AI models, including the claude of anthropic and QWEN of Alibaba, to prepare a study report and analyze financial submissions.

But on the website, Manus’s Chinese company, Butterfly Effect offers some wild examples of what the platform can achieve from real estate purchase to programming video games.

In the viral video of Manus, YICHAO “Peak” JI, the platform suggests that the platform is superior to Openai’s deep research and agent tools as operators. Manus surpassed the deep research on the popular benchmarks of the general AI assistant called GAIA, and insisted that it investigated the ability of AI to explore the web of AI and use software to perform tasks.

JI said in the video, “Manus is not another chatbot or workflow. “It is a totally autonomous agent to bridge the gap between concepts and execution (…) We see it as the next paradigm of human-machine cooperation.”

But some initial users say that Manus is not a panacea.

Alexander Doria, co -founder of AI Startup PLEIAS, said he found error messages and endless loops while testing manus in X’s posts. Other X users point out that Manus commits a mistake in realistic questions, does not constantly cite tasks, and often does not miss the information that can be easily found online.

My experience in Manus was not very positive.

I asked for a platform to deal with what it looks like a very simple request on the platform. Order Pride Chicken Sandwich from the finest fast food joints in the delivery range. About 10 minutes later Manus crashed. In the second attempt, I found a menu item that met my standards, but Manus could not complete the order process or could not provide a checkout link.

Manus was stupid when he asked NYC to make a reservation from Japan to Japan. The instructions that I did not leave a lot of space for ambiguity (e.g. ““ Priority for business class flight, price and flexible date ”) provided a link to the rates for aircraft search engines such as Kayak.

I hoped that some of the following tasks could be attractive and told Manus to book a table at a restaurant within a walking distance. A few minutes later failed. Then I asked the platform to build a battle game inspired by Naruto. An error occurred for 30 minutes. When I decided to throw a towel.

Manus spokesman sent Techcrunch through the DM.

“As a small team, our focus is to continue to improve Manus and create an AI agent to help users actually solve problems (…) The main goal of closed beta is to test various parts of the system and identify problems. We are deeply grateful for the valuable insights shared by everyone. ”

So why did you explode if Manusis doesn’t have a technical promise? Some elements, such as monopoly in the lack of invitation, contributed.

The Chinese media quickly promoted Manus with AI innovation. Publication QQ News called this “pride of domestic products.” Meanwhile, AI influence on social media preaches wrong information about Manus’ abilities. The widely shared video showed manus, the desktop program, and worked on several smartphone apps. JI confirmed that the video was not actually a manus demonstration.

Another influential AI account for X tried to derive the comparison of Manus and China AI COMPANY DEEPSEEK. The butterfly effect did not develop an in -house model unlike DeepSeek. And DeepSeek has been able to use a lot of technology openly, but MONICA is not at least yet.

In terms of butterfly effect fairly, Manus is approaching very early. The company claims to expand its computing capacity and try to solve the problem as reported. But as the platform exists, Manus seems to be an example of over -advertising ahead of technology innovation.
